When referencing a journal article it is best to use the published date (online or in print) where known.

It can sometimes be confusing to reference a journal article when includes multiple dates such as:

  • Received date
  • Revised date
  • Accepted date
  • Published online date

When you find an article like this always use the date of publication in your reference.
