Where can I get help to set up my own device?

Library and ITS staff are unable to assist you directly to set up your own device however we suggest you follow the advice and links below.

How to set up and customize your new computer

Out of the box, new laptops will automatically go through to

  1. Ask for language/time zone detail
  2. Join to a network
  3. Login to a Microsoft Account.

Note: avoid using your Student account details when configuring a personal device due to the expiry/block that will eventually happen to them, it's best to use a personal email address e.g. Gmail.

How to create a new Microsoft account

We recommend to use an account when setting up your device to ensure that you are backed up or linked to your personal information.

Typically most software on the device initially will work to get you going but the Fed Uni version of Office is different and you can get it from your logged in university account via the page in the article linked above.
